Posting Order: Taylor, Sam, Matt

The last thing Taylor expected when she got into the back of an ambulance with Tim was to find herself a patient in the ER. She was so upset by the time they got there following Tim having another one of those weird seizures in the ambulance that the fact they wanted to poke and prod her too went right over her head. Not to mention the fact she was alone and seemd to be haunted by the fucking ghost of technology future, getting nothing but voicemail every time she tried to call someone.

But now she was in a sterile, clinical and cold room in a gown after they had relieved her of her vomit-covered police uniform. It wasn't like she had time to change. She had sat and held Tim's hand until the paramedics arrived, and then she just automatically went with him. After that, she was clueless. It felt like forever before anyone would tell her anything, and the ER was chaotic and busy. She felt like an ant in a huge city. Then all of a sudden they were interrogating her, finally telling her she needed to get into a gown, that she needed prophylactic antibiotics, especially considering she was pregnant. Now she was sitting there on the narrow, uncomfortable bed in a daze, wishing just one of her friends would at least call her back. She wanted Jason, but she rationally knew that even if he got her messages, he would have a four hour drive back from Dillon in front of him.

She sucked in a heavy breath and held it for a few moments, trying to fight the urge to cry as she looked down at the IV in her hand, bewildered. What the hell was going on and why did it all have to keep happening to them?

There were no cars in the drive when Taylor got home that evening. She knew Jason was in Dillon to visit his folks, and help Coach with some football something or other. At least he wasn't sitting around boozing again. He hadn't seemed to do that since she tore him a new one and dumped the pregnancy news on him. Since then, things had been tense between them, and she hated it it. She wasn't sure if they were just having a rough patch, or if their whole romance since the day she saw him in the supermarket in Dillon over a year ago now was just one big rough patch. As hard as she was trying, she couldn't connect with the baby she was carrying. Whenever she tried to think about it, she could only feel negativity. So, instead of talking about it and trying to fix it, they had just fallen into this slump of monotony, where one day slipped into the next without revisiting any of the issues. The truth was, Taylor was just plain scared that being pregnant again would lead to her losing Jason again. She was burying her head in the sand, and she didn't even know how to fix it.

Now it was just another night coming home after a long and tiring day... )

Silas yawned widely as he groggily felt his way up the hallway of the house. His fingertips trailed along the wall as he navigated himself, trying to get to the bathroom without opening his eyes too much and therefore without waking up more than he had to to take a piss and get back into bed. He had opted for an early night after having a bad night sleep the night before. He knew Tyra was at college for a late class, Sam and Matt were out on a date thing, and Jason and Tim were out on the piss. He wasn't sure where Mac was, but when Silas went to bed around eight, the house had been quiet and empty. It was probably why he figured there was no point putting pants on for a quick trip to the bathroom. He hadn't been asleep that long, so getting around in his jocks was probably safe. It wasn't like he was exactly thinking very clearly being half asleep.

But he was awake enough to be pretty certain that as he made his way up the hall, he could hear someone throwing up... )

Taylor was just setting her laptop aside on the nightstand when Jason started to stir beside her. When she had woken up earlier, she found him hugged up against her asleep again, even if she had been aware he had been up and out of the bed at some point. She had just been too tired to really realise when or where he went. He couldn't have been gone that long, and she was relieved to find him back in bed with her when she crawled her way back to sleep consciousness. After that, she couldn't sleep herself, so she took a quick trip to the bathroom and then came back to bed, settling in with her laptop and striking up a conversation with Matt online, even if he was only a couple of doors away up the hall. She was feeling a little better herself, her stomach not churning so horribly and all the other symptoms seemed to have settled right down. She was just tired now, and more than a little crushed their wedding had to be cancelled.

She slipped her fingers into Jason's messy hair, brushing it back off his face as she looked down at him, watching him wake slowly... )

[Follows a few days after THIS]

It had been a tough few days in Austin for Taylor, to say the least. She didn't think her or Jason intended for them to just end up in bed together as soon as they reunited, but it had happened, and she wasn't sorry for it. It was the first time in months she felt alive and connected again. That just wasn't something she could regret. But it hadn't made anything easier. In the wake of it, it just seemed that they fell into this realm of not visiting what they needed to; not talking about what needed to be discussed. She knew why, too. They were both terrified of what was going to result in talking.

So, they didn't. They didn't say very much at all, and just spent the time being together. She had asked him if he wanted her to leave, to stay somewhere else, but he hadn't. He wanted her to stay here, and it seemed to be an unspoken agreement that she would just share his bed. That part of things seemed to click like nothing had changed, but there was still tension there. They couldn't go on like this forever.

It hadn't been lost on her how weak and drained he had looked when she first arrived. He had been pale and unshaven, had lost weight since she last saw him. That made sense, too, if what Tim had told her had been true. Jason had mostly been living on a liquid diet and his health had to have suffered on some level because of it. For her, it was easy to just fall right back into taking care of him. She started to make sure he was eating okay and helped him have clean clothing in easy reach. She just couldn't understand how something could feel so comfortable, yet so off-balance all at the same time.

It was now morning, and the rest of the house was quiet. Taylor had been awake for a little while, just lying there lost in her thoughts while Jason slept heavily beside her. She felt it came time to just get up and let him sleep, but when she shifted and rose to get to the edge of the bed, the frame squeaked and disturbed Jason, waking him up. She stifled the urge to curse under her breath as she guiltily looked back at him. "Sorry, QB. Go back to sleep, sweetheart..." she urged in a hushed voice.

It was a freezing day in Austin, but Jason had hardly noticed. In fact, Jason had hardly done anything that day. It was one of those days where you wake up feeling shit and everything around you feels shit too. You don't feel like being spoken to, and by default, just from the vibes you're sending out, everyone automatically just steers clear. He got out of bed for his morning routine in the bathroom, but after that was done, he was disappearing back into the cave of blankets, all the blinds drawn and the lights out. He didn't bother getting dressed, didn't shave, and didn't even feel hungry. Both Sam and Tyra asked him if he was sick, but he just told them both he wanted to be left alone. They got it. He never had to ask twice when he was in a funk like this, and he appreciated it. He didn't know where Silas was, which suited Jason at that point. He wasn't feeling the least bit sociable that day, even if Tyra's new other half had afforded them all much amusement in the short time he had been in Texas. Everything from supplying extremely good weed to wanting a shot in Jason's chair and ending up mincemeat against the wall complete with a broken arm. Jason had laughed more this past week than he had in months, but now he had come to a crashing halt. Everything felt so compounded today; the fact he was cripple and couldn't walk, that he lost his football career, that he let Tim and Lyla fuck him around, that his job prospects were in the toilet, that he let himself get taken for a ride by Erin, that he let himself get close to Noah, that he lost Mac and their baby, and couldn't be enough to have protected them from getting hurt. All in all, that day, he was just a big half-paralysed ball of misery but at least he was containing it to himself, right?

What he did know was that he was home alone... )

Taylor sighed and rubbed a hand over her face as she stood in front of the cells. He other hand was on her hip as she slowly shook her head with a small groan and soon went up to the bars to look tiredly at the cell occupant. "Ya' ain't so smart, ya' know that?" she offered, her fingers curling around one of the bars. "This is my last day, and I'm only here as a favour."

Tim Riggins was smirking and gave a small shrug from where he was lounging on the cot in the corner of the room... )

[Companion piece to THIS, THIS and THIS]

Taylor rubbed her fingers across her forehead in an attempt to try and push away the headache building there. She closed another case file and hit save and then print on the case file note she had just typed up. Her black rookie uniform felt stifling today. In fact, the whole precinct felt stifling. She had been stuck in a desk job since she got back, and at first she had been grateful of the slower pace. Now she was just restless, more mornings than not wondering why the hell she was even bothering to get out of bed. People had finally stopped asking her on a daily basis if she was okay, though. That was a relief. The monotonous 'Fine, thank you' answers were getting harder to lie her way through. Everyone in her department knew she had been in a car accident back home in Texas while she had been on injury leave after being stabbed on the job back at the beginning of the year. They didn't know the enormity of it all, though. She hadn't been forthcoming with details. Just that she had hurt her back and fractured her rib, which is why she needed a few more months off the beat. She didn't mention the pregnancy.

Didn't mention Jason.

She closed her eyes as the tension headache suddenly felt like it was blinding her and she pushed her chair back, standing up... )
